Baked Intentions by Linda Sultan

Linda has graciously allowed another excerpt from the book Family Life And Other Strife to be shared with Humor Is Relative's readers!

When our children grow up and leave home, we - as mothers - find ourselves fixing up little 'care packages' to send our offspring a little 'taste' of home. I hope you enjoy her humorous poetic musing about fixing a batch of homemade cookies for her son away at college ...

I baked an ample batch of homemage cookies
To send my college student off at school.
They smelled delicious baking in the oven.
I waited patiently for them to cool.
I noticed some were burnt around the edges.
I ate the burnt ones, just to get the taste.
And several, placed too close, had stuck together.
Not good enough to send, too good to waste.
Unfortunately, some had gotten broken.
I sorted as I munched on cookie bits.
And somehow just a few were left for sending.
I poured some milk. I hope the sweater fits.

Did you enjoy Friday Night At The Movies or Baked Intentions? Both were excerpts shared from Linda's poetic, yet with a touch of humor and sentimentality, penned book. I appreciate her permission to share them with Humor Is Relative's readership. She even impressed her harshest critics into giving the book raving reviews! Can you relate?

Humor Is Relative thanks Cay Dickson, from Houston Chronicle, for the compliment!

I never see any home cooking. All I get is fancy stuff.
